You may think "oh, let me choose this because I think it looks good." See this is something you will never here a designer say because they always take into account what affect choosing that color will have. Designers have to take into account many things when they decide colors for a project, they first have to look at the color wheel and color harmonies to see what colors will look good together. They use color harmonies like analogous ( three or five colors next to each other on the color wheel), complementary (colors opposite each other on the color wheel), or split complementary ( three colors that are off by one from the opposite). They also need to take into account what colors will bring out certain emotions, like if they want to express danger they might use red or black and if they want to express something is good or on the "good" side then they might use white. As you can see choosing colors as a designer at times can be very difficult but overall it really depends on what you are working on. Another thing about color that designers need to think about is which model they are going to use. There are two main models the additive or light model (used for digital design like film and video games) and the subtractive or pigment model (used for physical things like posters or advertisements). Each model has different colors as its primary colors, the light model as red, green, and blue, while the pigment model has cyan, magenta, and yellow. Another interesting thing is that when you make a secondary color (by mixing two equal amounts of two primary colors) in each model it is one of the primary colors from the other model. Overall colors in design are not the hardest thing to grasp but can sometimes be difficult to work with.

For the past week we have been working with different composition techniques. Composition techniques help bring emphasis to certain points and help draw the viewer to the image. The composition techniques we learned about were Rule of Thirds, Rule of Odds, Perspective, and Simplification. I found all of these pretty easy to handle and understand and I found all of them pretty interesting. Along with actually working with Photoshop to look at these techniques we also watched videos explaining the ideas and techniques in ways that were easier to understand. I found the most interesting technique to be Rule of Thirds. Rule of Thirds is basically splitting up your image into a three by three grid and using the lines and intersection points as the points that you want to put your main objects on. One thing I found really interesting about Rule of Thirds and all the other rules is that you can use all of them in the same image. This really draws the viewers eye and can lead to a very pleasing picture. Overall these were great techniques to learn and it really helped me to see how slight differences can really change someones view on a picture.
